The Miss Augusta: A Gorgeous Yacht Cruise Through the Heart of Missouri Wine Country

We didn’t expect to take a gorgeous yacht cruise down the Missouri River, eating a delicious meal and watching bald eagles soar overhead, but yet here we were one Saturday afternoon, enjoying every last moment on the stunning Miss Augusta in St. Charles County.

From the moment we stepped onboard, it was clear this wasn’t just a riverboat ride. The Miss Augusta itself is a beautifully maintained yacht- elegant but approachable, with expansive windows, polished wood finishes, and an open-air deck that invites you to come up, sit down, and take in the view. It feels like a step back in time in the best way, a nod to the long history of river travel along the Missouri River.

And then there’s the setting.

As the boat gently pushed off from shore, the landscape opened up into something quietly spectacular- rolling banks, historic stretches of river, and a peacefulness that’s hard to find in everyday life. The captain shared stories of the river’s past as we cruised along, weaving in bits of history that gave the scenery even more depth. It’s one thing to see a place- it’s another to understand it as you move through it.  As a huge history buff who uses travel to worldschool our 8-year-old daughter, it was especially meaningful to hear quotes from Mark Twain as we cruised along the Missouri River- one of the most important and historic waterways in the country.

At several points, we looked up to see our national bird, bald eagles soaring overhead- effortless, powerful, and completely captivating. It was nesting season, and spotting them in their natural habitat felt like a special treat we didn’t plan for, but truly appreciated when it happened.

The experience is just as much about the food as it is the views- and this is where the Miss Augusta truly shines.

Lunch began with a fresh spring greens salad, layered with pine nuts, crispy onions, and feta- light, textured, and delicious. It set the tone for what followed: a perfectly roasted, moist chicken breast served with seasoned rice, green beans, and a rich cream mushroom sauce that felt both comforting and thoughtfully prepared. It’s elevated and delicious without being fussy- the kind of meal that fits the setting perfectly.

What makes this experience even more special is where it takes place. St. Charles County is often considered the heart of Missouri wine country, home to charming towns, scenic vineyards, and even award-winning port wine. Pairing a river cruise like this with a day of exploring nearby wineries or historic streets makes for an effortlessly well-rounded visit.

The Miss Augusta has specialty cruises all year long, ranging from themed dining experiences and holiday sailings to sunset cruises that highlight the beauty of the river at golden hour. They also offer seasonal events that make each visit feel a little different depending on when you go. For those looking to create something more personal, the yacht can be privately chartered for special occasions, making it a truly memorable setting on the water.

And while the views during our trip were undeniably beautiful- soft early-season tones and glimpses of nature just beginning to wake up- you can’t help but imagine how breathtaking it must be in the height of summer. Come June and July, when the trees lining the river are fully alive with lush greenery, this stretch of water must feel even more immersive, like drifting through a living painting.

That’s the thing about experiences like this- you don’t just enjoy them, you start planning when you’ll come back.
