As I write this, we’re 35,000 feet above the Pacific, somewhere between North America and Sydney, Australia buzzing with a mix of excitement, anticipation, and maybe a little sleep deprivation (hello, packing and time zones!). In just a few days, we’ll step aboard the Regent Seven Seas Explorer—dubbed “the world’s most luxurious cruise ship”—to kick off our new adventure and FoodFamilyTravel.com series, Life OVER Seas.
For the next few months, we’re trading in life on land for life at sea. The plan? To fully embrace a growing lifestyle trend: living aboard cruise ships full-time. While many retirees and digital nomads have already made the leap, we’re adding our own spin by doing it as a family of three—complete with a 6-year-old, global homeschooling, and managing the unique challenges of Livia’s type one diabetes.
This isn’t just about travel; it’s about transformation. We’re diving headfirst into a lifestyle that encourages us to let go of the conventional- packing our lives into suitcases, moving into a cabin suite, and embracing the unknown. Through our series, Life OVER Seas, we’ll explore what it means to redefine home and work while experiencing the beauty of the world firsthand.
One of the most exciting parts of this journey is the places we’ll see. From the rugged coastlines of New Zealand to glaciers and fjords, the vibrant cities of Australia, the International Antarctic Centre, the exotic islands of Indonesia, and the bustling streets of Singapore, each stop offers something new. It’s a unique blend of adventure and discovery, all while living aboard a floating masterpiece.
FoodFamilyTravel.com partnered with Regent to make this journey possible. While we’re covering some of the costs ourselves, Regent has generously helped bring this vision to life. This partnership allows us to provide you with an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to live and work from a cruise ship. We also need to thank our amazing family who uprooted their own lives to come and take care of our home while we’re halfway around the world.
Right now, as we work, write, load up on water and rest on this 777-200 LR while Livia sleeps next to us, we’re imagining that moment we step on board. Will it really feel like “the most luxurious cruise ship in the world”? How will we balance work, school, and exploration?
This is more than a trip for us—it’s the start of a new chapter. We can’t wait to bring you along for the ride (or rather, the sail).
Next stop: Sydney, then onward to the Regent Seven Seas Explorer. Let the adventure begin!
