I always love sharing travel tips and trends, and yesterday was no different. It was so much fun back in the studio, appearing on Las Vegas Now on KLAS-CBS TV yesterday, sharing the growing workcation travel trend.

Here is the link to the full video and story, along with the full list of tips to keep you productive and present on your next workcation- happy traveling!

Workcation Tips to Help You Stay Productive and Present

1. Choose the Right Destination With Your Needs

Don’t just chase beauty- chase practicality. Look for destinations with strong, reliable Wi-Fi, coworking spaces or quiet cafés, and time zones that align with your job. If you're working U.S. hours, for example, a European city might let you explore all morning and start work in the afternoon.

2. Prep for Wi-Fi Woes – Download Before You Go

Never rely entirely on hotel or Airbnb Wi-Fi. Sometimes Wi-Fi is great in the early morning hours and then drops once everyone wakes up and goes online. Before your trip, download key work documents, Google Maps areas offline, save travel guides, back up Zoom backgrounds, and pre-load entertainment or presentations. That way, you're covered even if the signal drops.

3. Use Apps to Sync Family & Work Time with “Office Hours”

Use tools like Google Calendar or Cozi to map out your day- clearly blocking off time for meetings, deep work, and family adventures. Stick to realistic “office hours” that your family and team can count on. Setting expectations early makes all the difference.

4. Turn Travel Days into Soft Work Days

Don’t overcommit on flight or transfer days, but DO use the time to get ahead on work so you can save yourself time once you get to your destination. I call it "banking" work time- and on a workcation, every moment counts. Use that time for offline tasks like reading, brainstorming, inbox cleanup, writing, or planning. Catching up on strategy or content while in transit turns downtime into productive time- without the pressure of Zoom calls.

5. Pack Smart – Bring Your Mobile Office

Create a portable setup that works anywhere: your laptop, noise-canceling headphones, a mini ring light for video calls, universal adapter, power bank, and a portable mouse. If you're planning to use public workspaces, don't forget laptop privacy screens. Toss in pens, a notebook, and an HDMI cable if you want to connect to hotel TVs.

6. Plan Anchor Days for Exploration

Designate one or two “anchor days” during your trip to be light on work and rich in local discovery. Most people will choose Monday or Friday- but this may not be best with your location. Research ahead of time to find lighter tourist days. Anyone who has visited Disneyland on a Friday or weekend knows- you should choose Tuesday or Wednesday to avoid some of the crowds. That's true of many tourist locations around the world. Use these days to dive into a museum, take a day trip, or get lost in a new neighborhood. You’ll feel more balanced and inspired.
